Ana Cecilia Wreck Dive In Palm Beach | Sport Diver

Scuba Diving on West Palm Beach's New Shipwreck Ana Cecilia

Want some wreck diving a little closer to home? For U.S. residents, scuba diving in Palm Beach, Florida offers plenty of wrecks without ever leaving the states. For everyone else, they're well worth the travel. Take a look at this video of the newly-sunk Ana Cecilia.

The Ana Cecilia is the latest addition to Palm Beach, Florida’s ever-growing collection of artificial reefs — which includes more than 90 wrecks, rubble piles and statues. This 629-ton cargo vessel was sunk just north of Lake Worth Inlet on July 13, 2016 in 85 feet of water. The 170-foot wreck is so new you can still clearly see the marking on its surface, but that isn’t to say it is devoid of marine life. Already populations of wrasse, porkfish and sergeant majors have made themselves at home. Goliath groupers can often be found hanging on or below deck — the many opens cut into it make it easy for divers to access the inside of the ship. Turtles and rays can also be seen in the sand beneath the ship.

Ana Cecilia is now the first stop on the Shipwreck Corridor, a site that includes three other wrecks. Follow the bread crumb trail of rubble north — or just go with the current — and you’ll come across the old Greek luxury liner Mizpah, the remains of patrol boat PC1174, and the wreck of the 450-foot cargo ship Amaryllis.
