Italy’s newest dive site isn’t off its beautiful coastline, or even in the ocean — it’s a swimming pool just west of Venice, located in the Hotel Terme Millepini. Part of the Montegrotto Terme resort area, the pool is called Y-40 Deep Joy, and Guinness World Records has officially named it the world’s deepest.
To go through the deepest part of the pool, a diver must descend the massive nose dive of the main tunnel — 138 feet down. The pool is large too, at 69-by-59 feet. Designed by architect Emanuele Boaretto, Deep Joy provides an indoor-diving experience for both free divers and scuba divers. It’s set up for scuba training as well as underwater filming, photography and research. Divers can even maneuver through artificial rock caves. No wetsuit is needed in this 1.1-million-gallon oasis, where the water temperature hovers between 90 and 93 F, thanks to its origin from local hot springs.
