Diver Pulls Teeth from Hammerhead Shark's Mouth to Ease its Pain

It’s probably best to start this post off with a general warning: Do not try this at home!

Filmmaker Joe Romeiro decided he wanted to update his resume with a new job title: shark dentist.

Romeiro turned heads with a recent Instagram post (above) that includes photos of him removing a tooth from a great hammerhead shark.

Even though we’re generally conditioned to stay away from sharks’ teeth, Romeiro decided to help remove two damaged teeth when he saw the hammerhead’s gums were infected and irritated.

“I wouldn't advise anyone to try this,” Romeiro wisely notes in his post. The encounter happened in 2015, according to GrindTV, but he posted the photos last week.

Romeiro, an experienced shark diver, spent a significant time with the shark over several dives in the Bahamas while filming, allowing him to notice the sensitive spot in its gums.

"She eventually just let me do it, and she was really active afterwards," Romeiro told GrindTV. "I can only describe it as it seemed that she was relieved that it wasn't impacted anymore."
