**Since its inception, the BVI Scuba Organization's many roles include:
**
Promoting safe diving practices both for the local population and visiting divers whether or not they are using Members' facilities
Propagating the observation of the laws of the Territory as well as the respect of its social standards, culture and natural resources
Insuring good relations between the resident independent dive operators and the BVI Government and the people of the British Virgin Islands
Fostering a climate that is consistent with the smooth development of the dive industry in the British Virgin Islands
Developing and maintaining a mooring ball system to allow all boaters a safe anchorage at our favourite sites, while protecting our marine environment from the destruction of dragging anchors
Donating significant time, equipment, boats and expertise to the Kids and the Sea (KATS) program. This program encourages and enables British Virgin Islands youth to become certified scuba divers and respect our marine heritage
Becoming instrumental in training the medical staff at Peebles Hospital in the principles of hyperbaric medicine
Donating complete oxygen kits for the ambulances that service our islands
Frequently assists VISAR with Search and Rescue. The presence of oxygen on board every dive boat is very useful in helping casualties on other boats who need first aid and oxygen
